New homes in Darwen

Darwen is a friendly market town, that's got the edge when it comes to a view. This high-up Lancashire town is surrounded by rugged space, right up on the edge of the West Pennines, with Blackburn to the north and Bolton to the south. Its heritage as an industrial mill town is shared with many of Lancashire’s towns, and today it works side-by-side with Blackburn, keeping its own identity, whilst sharing the benefits of the additional facilities of its bigger neighbour. Easy access to the M65 and M6, to Manchester and Merseyside, and to the countryside that’s dotted with footpaths and reservoirs, make this a great option for family life in a new home.

Cross-country connections

The A666 is the main road through Darwen, connecting Bolton and Blackburn across the moors. It joins the M65 between Darwen and Blackburn, and that in turn joins the M6 at Junction 29 and the M61 – the main route for Chorley - at Junction 9. The town’s train station is on the Ribble Valley Line, with services connecting to Blackburn, Bolton, Manchester, Rochdale and Clitheroe. The Darwen Circus bus terminal is the starting point for local services throughout the area. Manchester Airport is 28 miles south, an average drive time of 45 minutes.

In town

Darwen is well sorted for shopping, sport and leisure, and education. It’s got a wide range of local shops and convenience stores as well as an Asda supermarket. There’s everything that you’ll need for day-to-day shopping, and as Manchester is within easy reach, you can make a wonderful day trip of its famous high street and outlet shopping centres. However, to get back down to earth and really shop local, you can go to the Market Square, a fantastic new public space in the heart of the town, where Darwen’s Market is a delight of fresh local produce. There’s a leisure centre with a 25-metre swimming pool, library and theatre. There are plenty of primary schools and the Darwen Vale High School and Darwen Aldridge Community Academy take care of secondary education. For time-out, there are four town parks; Bold Venture Park, Sunnyhurst Wood, Whitehall Park and Ashton Park. They’ve got trails leading up to the area’s landmark, Darwen Tower.

Out and about

Even with amazing open countryside on your doorstep, a change of scenery is good for a day out. A 20-minute drive gets you to the Ribble Valley near Preston, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and once you’re on the M6 you can be in Cumbria and the Lake District in no time. If you prefer the great indoors to the great outdoors, Liverpool and Manchester will give you a city break to remember.
