Tewkesbury

Tewkesbury has a foot in the door of three gorgeous English counties; Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Together they include the Cotswolds, the Severn Valley, the Malvern Hills and the Wye Valley. As well as this fabulous rural backdrop for an outdoors lifestyle, Tewkesbury is within easy motorway reach of the busy commercial and industrial areas of the West Midlands to the north, and the thriving city of Bristol to the south.

Living in Tewkesbury

Bringing history to life

The Abbey is the 900-year-old focal point of the town, the two rivers, the Severn and the Avon, are its landmarks, and the rest – as they say, is history. Tewkesbury has Medieval and Tudor roots, and ancient black-and-white timber buildings in the High Street bear witness to its importance through the ages. Tewkesbury’s heritage as a market town carries on today, with a twice-weekly market, a monthly farmers’ market and several buzzing Food and Arts Markets each year, when the High Street is closed to traffic. Add the annual Food and Drink Festival in the Abbey Grounds and you’ll fall in love with your new hometown.

Up to date amenities

Historic though it may be, Tewkesbury has got life today covered too. Independent shops sit side by side with national brands. Tesco provides the town centre with a supermarket, and Aldi and Morrisons are on the outskirts. The facilities of the town’s leisure centre are complemented by paddleboarding on the River Severn, there’s a sailing club, and the town is on Route 45 of the National Cycleway Network. For something less energetic, boat trips on the River Avon are a wonderful way to see the sights.

There’s no problem getting out and about from Tewkesbury. The M5 is your go-to motorway, just outside town. It puts Birmingham just over an hour away, Bristol just under an hour away, Worcester half an hour away, and Cheltenham and Gloucester just over 20 minutes away. The M50 will take you to Ross on Wye in an hour and a half and from there, it’s a quick hop over the border into Wales. The local train station, on the Bristol - Birmingham line, is a couple of miles outside Tewkesbury at Ashchurch.
