Cricket club bowled over with donation from housebuilder

11 August 2026

A cricket club is celebrating after receiving a donation from Persimmon Homes.

Seaton Burn Cricket Club received a £3,000 donation after applying to its Community Champions scheme.

The club say the donation has helped to provide the club with a dedicated practice area for teams.

Emma Foody MP was recently on-hand to present the cheque to the club.

Paul Redmayne, Seaton Burn Cricket Club Trustee, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Persimmon Homes for awarding us this grant.

“We have grown our junior section over the last few years to now having seven age groups, as well as introducing a ladies softball section. Whilst this is brilliant for the club and our members, it has put our facilities under strain as we try and find room for everyone.

“The grant from Persimmon has helped us to redevelop an old bowling green on our site into a dedicated practice area. This means that we can continue to offer the opportunity to play to everyone in our community, and makes us a much more sustainable club with people able to get involved, whatever their age and ability.”

Emma Foody MP said: “It was brilliant to join Seaton Burn Cricket Club and hear about how they’re enhancing sport in our area.

“Grassroots sports clubs are the lifeblood of many communities, providing opportunity and activities, but require the goodwill and support of many volunteers and communities.

“Thank you to Persimmon’s Community Champions scheme that will support them to do even more”

Martin Thrumble, Persimmon North East Technical Director, said: “It was a pleasure to visit Seaton Burn Cricket Club and see first-hand the work Paul and the team are doing to get the community involved in sport.

“We’re thrilled this donation will help the club to welcome new players and we hope this donation goes far in supporting them.”
