Cricket club ‘bowled’ over by builder’s donation

Guiseley Cricket Club has secured a donation from Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire to help fund an upgrade of its junior net training facility.

Located in the Wharfe Valley the cricket club will use the £1,000 from the Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme to put towards the new artificial nets.

Nick Fraser club chairman said: “We are very much a community club with more than 200 members and well over 100 players across our senior and junior teams.

“Our cricket square is simply not big enough to accommodate the number of juniors and seniors who want to practice week in week out during the summer months, so an artificial net facility is essential.

“Our existing area was one of the first in the area, but it is now over 20 years old and has become overgrown with moss and is dangerous, and in many areas unusable.  For that reason, we decided to put in a brand new facility and the Persimmon Homes’ donation will enable us to complete the project. It will make a huge difference for our players.”

Under the Community Champions scheme, the West Yorkshire regional business provides financial support of up to £1,000 to two local charities or good causes, every month.

Christopher Hull, managing director for Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, added: “Community Champions is all about supporting the local community and Guiseley Cricket Club provides a great facility for the community.”
