A Suffolk Scout group that provides activities and adventures for more than 65 young people each week has received a £2,000 donation from the Suffolk region.

The donation was made through the our Community Champions scheme and 1st Leiston Scout Group will use the money to help towards much-needed repairs to their store room – which contains camping equipment vital for their summer adventures.

The cheque was presented by Stuart McAdam, Planning Director at Persimmon Homes Suffolk, alongside Cllr Katie Graham, Leiston ward councillor at East Suffolk Council, at the housebuilder’s Aldhurst View development in Leiston.

Stuart said: "Scout groups play a hugely important role in local communities, giving young people the chance to learn new skills, build confidence and enjoy new experiences in a safe and supportive environment.

"We were delighted to meet representatives from 1st Leiston Scouts and hear more about the fantastic opportunities they provide for local youngsters. Through our Community Champions scheme, we are pleased to contribute towards essential repairs that will help the group continue its activities for many years to come."

Steve Burch, of 1st Leiston Scouts said: "We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes Suffolk for this generous donation. The funding will help us carry out much-needed repairs to our store room roof, protecting equipment that is used by all sections of the group.

"We currently support 65 young people across our Beaver, Cub, Scout and Explorer sections, and they are all delighted we will soon be able to protect their equipment from the elements.”

Katie Graham, Leiston ward member for East Suffolk Council, added: "Community organisations such as 1st Leiston Scouts make a real difference to the lives of young people and their families. It was wonderful to see this support from Persimmon Homes Suffolk, which will help the group maintain its facilities and continue providing valuable activities for local youngsters."
