First completions at new Taunton development

17 December 2025

The first customers to purchase a home at the fourth and final phase of a Taunton housing outlet have moved in.

Earlier this year, Persimmon Homes South West secured planning permission for the final phase of 90 homes at Hartnells Farm, which will mean 320 new homes for local people on the development once complete.

Last month, the first residents of Phase Four – situated to the north of the Monkton Heathfield urban extension – have started moving in.

Aidan and Abigail, aged 23 and 21 respectively, chose Hartnells Farm as their first home having been a couple for seven years.

Car servicing professional, Abigail, said of buying their first home “It feels like an incredible accomplishment – and made the hard-work, energy, and stress seem entirely worthwhile. We are so excited now to make our home our own in a way you just can’t without the home being truly yours.

“We chose Monkton because we love quiet villages and it’s in the perfect location work wise for both of us, and the mid-point between each of our families. And now we have room for a puppy – if I can get Aidan to agree!”

NHS distribution worker, Aidan, added “The sales process couldn’t have been any easier and everyone we have had the pleasure of meeting – like Lisa, Jodie, and Jordan – made it incredibly seamless and never thought we had stupid questions. It was an amazing experience and its great to be moved in time for Christmas.”

“We are incredibly proud to be homeowners at our age, especially with how difficult it is for people like us to get on the property ladder. However, if you put your mind to it and you really want it, the whole buying process is worth it in the end.”

As part of a placemaking and environmentally friendly vision in the plans that brought Persimmon’s vision to life, a buffer of retained and new trees will line the north and eastern boundary, creating an ecological dark corridor for protected habitats.

An existing large oak tree in the south-east will be retained through creating surrounding open space, and a woodland walk through the north-east creating walking areas for both existing and new residents will also be created.

Tree lined streets and attenuation ponds will line the spine road, supporting natural flood runoff alongside basins in the south. Each home will also be accompanied by bird and bat boxes. Funds for local area will also be delivered via the Community Infrastructure Levy.

The five-star developer currently has two and three-bed homes for sale from £249,995 at Hartnells Farm.

Commenting, Persimmon Homes South West Sales Director Stacey Harris said “We are delighted the first properties at our exciting Hartnells Farm development are selling and the positive interest we’ve seen in the good quality, affordable homes available on site.

“At Persimmon, we provide ourselves on building good quality homes for local people and we believe we will deliver a development which will meet the needs of local people and deliver a long-term, sustainable community.”
