Plans submitted for new homes in Newton Aycliffe
25 February 2026
Plans for more than 140 new homes in Newton Aycliffe have been submitted to Durham County Council by Persimmon Homes.
An application has been made by the housebuilder for 142 new homes on the Eldon Whins development, on the edge of the town.
The development includes a broad range of homes, including a mixture of 2,3,4 and 5-bedroom houses.
Of these properties 15% will be earmarked as affordable, with a mixture of affordable rent homes and Discount Open Market Sale.
The site will include public open spaces, including children’s play parks. It is proposed that Persimmon will provide funding for local education and healthcare provision as well as highways improvements.
Local travel will also be improved, as the housebuilder pledges to create a new toucan crossing on Middridge Road, to make travel into Newton Aycliffe town centre easier.
Olly Thompson, Persimmon Durham Land Director said: “We are pleased to bring these plans forward for new, energy efficient homes in Newton Aycliffe.
“New homes are needed and, in these plans, we hope to contribute to the community with affordable homes for first-time buyers and families alike.”
