Famous for being the oldest "new town" in the North, Newton Aycliffe came into existence in 1947 and has been flourishing ever since. Located just nine miles to the North of Darlington and 14 miles South of Durham, with excellent links to the A1(M) it's an ideal commuter town for Newcastle, Bishop Auckland and Middlesbrough.

Good schools close by

There is 12 great primary schools in the area, many of which have nursery schools included. There are three secondary schools to choose from including, Woodham Academy, Greenfield Academy and UTC South Durham. It has a good range of schools for children with special educational needs including Forest Park School, Pear Tree School and Oakwood Learning Centre - the town is also home to the North East Centre for Autism Aycliffe School, which offers specialist support for children of all ages on the autistic spectrum.

Family fun

Come rain or shine, there’s an activity for all ages. Close to your new build there's Ruff ‘n’ Tumble Adventure World, the ROF59 Climbing Centre and Planet Leisure for bowling and roller skating. The Oakleaf Sports Complex featuring a brilliant golf complex is very is family-friendly - but for something more sedate, pack a picnic and feed the ducks in West Park.

Great road and rail connections

Middlesbrough (20 miles) is just 30 minutes' drive, via Stockton-on-Tees (13 miles) on the A66. Darlington (9 miles) is a 20-minute drive due south and Durham (14 miles) is just over 30 minutes drive north on the A167. Travel by train to these main towns and cities is a good option if you need to commute. For a place in the sun, Teesside International Airport is just over 12 miles to the southeast, an easy drive of under half an hour.
