The village has a number of convenience stores, a few nearby supermarkets as well as weekly markets on a Thursday and a Saturday. It is a very sociable place filled with families and young people, so there are lots of bars, restaurants and cafes - indoor bowling, a leisure centre with a swimming pool and even a hotel.
Great transport links
The A693 runs through the town on its way to join the A1(M) at Chester-le-Street, getting you to Washington (10 miles), Gateshead (7 miles) and Newcastle (9 miles) in no time. The A691 takes you into Durham (9 miles) and the A68 is another key route, heading north-south along the edge of the beautiful Durham Dales (20 miles). The village has a bus network from the main interchange in the town to mainline train services to Durham and Newcastle. Newcastle International Airport is to the north of the city but still only takes just over half an hour by car.
Great schooling
Your new build is very well served by education. There are seven nursery schools, 12 primary schools (including infants and juniors) as well as two secondary schools - Tanfield School and North Durham Academy. Children with special educational needs can attend the Croft Community School in nearby Catchgate.
