Newbottle

Newbottle is a friendly tight-knit community between Sunderland on the coast and inland Chester-le-Street. Once a proud mining town, it is now home to a major Football Association training facility, the Russell Foster Football Centre.

There are great facilities on the doorstep including a couple of pubs, a workingmen’s club, a newsagent, a Post Office and a convenience store. There’s a local primary school which serves the village and surrounding areas. If you need to commute, Sunderland (6 miles) is just a half-hour bus journey or Durham (9 miles) is just 20 minutes by car.

Living in Newbottle

Get out and about

You will be close to the football action, but close to Elba Park for great dog walking and the Herrington Country Park with a sculpture trail, hiking and biking routes and a playground. Just a few miles from your new house, there's a petting zoo and playground at Down at The Farm. If you’d prefer a day in the city, head to the Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, or to Newcastle for the Life Science Centre or the Discovery Museum.

You have three golf courses close to your new build: Chester-le-Street Golf Club, Houghton-Le-Spring Golf Club and Cocken Lodge Golf Course. Alternatively, head to the beach at Seaham, Seaburn or to South Shields and just enjoy miles of golden sands, walking and fresh sea air.

Great cities close to you

Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Sunderland and Durham are all within easy commuting distance. It is just nine miles from Durham with its cobbled streets, boutiques and speciality shops with a castle that towers above the River Wear and the spectacular cathedral that dominates the skyline.

Newcastle-upon-Tyne has a younger character, well known as a great shopping area and for its legendary nightlife. Sunderland is a port city with more than its fair share of green space and parks as well as a marina with the beautiful beaches of Roker and Seaburn nearby. All three are university cities with vibrant student populations.

Road links straight from your door

Just off the A690 which links with the A1(M) and the A19 – the area’s two main road routes. From Sunderland, you can use the Tyne and Wear Metro network which operates regular services into Newcastle and also runs a service to Newcastle Airport.

The area has a good bus service operated by Stagecoach, Go North East and Arriva North East Durham. Mainline train services are available from Durham and Sunderland - and if you need to fly, Newcastle International Airport is 20 miles to the North, whilst Teesside International Airport is just 27 miles to the South.
