Sacriston

Sacriston, to the East of Durham is named after the office of the Sacristan - who was a monk for was responsible for everything necessary for the smooth running of the nearby Cathedral. Populated since the Bronze Age, your new home in Sacriston has seen many changes, including the building of a colliery in the 19th century, now closed and the land turned into a 74-acre nature reserve called Sacriston Wood. Mountain biking and walking is from your door, but if you would like to go further afield, there's the North Pennines AONB just 12 miles to the West. 

The village retains its strong community spirit, with a new community centre as well as a number of shops including convenience stores, off licence, take away, Post Office and hairdressers. There are two primary schools, a health centre with both a GP and dental practice. The town is perfect for commuting, with Durham (4 miles) just an eight minute drive to the South. For secondary school education, there are three schools just two miles down the road, including Durham Trinity School & Sports College - a through school - as well as Framwellgate School Durham and New College Durham.

For Independent school options, Durham can oblige with Durham High School for Girls, Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation and The Independent Grammar School:Durham - which 100% of parents would recommend!

Road and rail links from your new build

The Durham Road, the A691, is just to the south of your new house in Sacriston. You can be in Durham (4 miles) in just eight minutes so that’s a real bonus for work and pleasure. Chester-le-Street (5 miles) is a large town to the North on the A167. If you need to travel further afield, you are not far from the A1(M) which takes you into Gateshead (12 miles) and Newcastle-upon-Tyne (15 miles) to the North, or Darlington (25 miles) to the South.

It’s great to be able to get into the countryside of the Durham Dales (20 miles), or into the main towns so easily from your new house. Sacriston is just four miles from Durham Railway Station, and there are direct buses serving the area to make onward travel from your new property, easy. 

Family fun time from home

Durham is great for grown-ups, whether it’s shopping, café culture, regatta-time, restaurants or night life. Children won’t miss out though, with Diggerland Durham, Adventure Valley and Wharton Park all within very easy reach of your new build in Sacriston.
