Paignton

Fringed by palm trees and lapped by gentle waves, the seaside town of Paignton on the English Riviera is an attractive and lively place to live. Well-served by its tourists, your new town is brimming with coffee shops, ice cream stands, cafes, bars and restaurants. There are traditional pubs with menus packed with local produce as well as a busy high street with big-name brands and supermarkets.

Aside from the iconic pier and miles of golden sands, it has all the amenities you need, close by, including a hospital and GP surgeries, five primary and a secondary school, a railway station and excellent road links to local towns and cities. But, with miles of blue flag beaches, coastal walking, cove exploring and wild swimming, why would you ever want to leave?

While some people may never tire of fun in the extensive amusement pier, many will want to hit the shops to grab a bargain or enjoy fine dining. Your new house is close to bars and restaurants, with different world cuisines, making eating out a wonderful adventure.

There are lots of shopping streets, packed with top brands as well as supermarkets and out-of-town shopping. Check out the huge retail park development, Devonshire Park, just a short drive to enjoy The Willows Retail Park on the outskirts of nearby Torquay.

Tourists fuel the many festivals and events that run throughout the year, fuelling the economy and making your new house such a special place to live. 

Throughout the year, there’s a packed calendar of events including Torbay Children’s Week, Paignton Festival, The Torbay Airshow, The Paignton Regatta and foodie delight, Paignton Harbour Festival. During the festivities, there are pop-up shops, restaurants, fringe events, funfairs, entertainments and competitions.

Outstanding schools for all ages

There are several Ofsted 'outstanding' and 'good' primary schools close to your house. Secondary-age children have Paignton Academy, South Devon High School and Torbay School, among other options. You are well served by South Devon College of Further Education, with nine campuses in the area and it has an excellent reputation.

Great road and rail links 

Buy a new build here and you're well placed for seaside adventures and travels further afield. The A380 and A385 are the key routes into the town, linking with Totnes (7 miles), Torquay (4 miles) and Newton Abbot (9 miles), before joining the A38. You are halfway between Exeter (25 miles) and Plymouth (30 miles). Trains to London take three hours, to Exeter, take just under an hour, and to Plymouth, about an hour and fifteen minutes. There’s a convenient regional airport at Exeter (27 miles) for domestic and European flights.
