Barnstaple

Perched on the rugged north Devonshire coast, close to the rolling hills and moorland of Exmoor, Barnstaple is an attractive and bustling modern town overflowing with green space and community spirit. Victorian, Georgian and Medieval houses, all rub shoulders along streets alive with local theatre, museums and events including a FOODfest and Barnstaple’s Big Weekend.

National Parks and golden beaches

To the North, Exmoor National Park dominates the coastline, joining with the North Devon National Landscape to the west and onto the Hartland Devon Heritage Coast - all offering uninterrupted coastal walking at its best. If you'd like to dip your toe in the sea, enjoy a swim or even catch some waves, try for Saunton Sands, Croyde, Woolacombe or Westward Ho! Try paddleboarding from Watermouth Bay to Broad Sands or walk your dog, year-round at Putsborough Sands.

Schools close to your doorstep

There’s a good range of 16 primary schools in the town and surrounding villages, some offering nursery and through education. There are two community colleges for secondary education, and just a few miles away, at West Buckland, there’s a well-known independent school. Your new build is also close to Petroc College of Further and Higher Education where two of the three campuses are based in Barnstaple.

Travelling from your new house

The A361 – the North Devon Link Road - is the direct route from Barnstaple joining the M5 motorway at Tiverton. If you'd like to head to Cornwall, leave your new home for the 70-mile-long A39 Atlantic Highway to Newquay.  If you need to commute, you’ll be just over an hour’s drive from Taunton (50 miles) and Exeter (43 miles).

Barnstaple has a railway station, with services to London Paddington taking around four hours via Exeter St Davids (70 minutes). Bristol Airport is just under two hours drive away.
