Interiors ideas spark Instagram explosion

A Cumbrian mum’s interior design ideas have become an Instagram sensation, inspiring more than 22,000 followers on the social media platform.
Claire Taylor set up her @insidenumber49_withclaire_x profile after moving into her Persimmon Home, intending to document its transformation from a house into a home for family and friends.
But the coronavirus pandemic has seen an explosion in attention to home styling, and Claire’s follower count has risen rapidly from under 5,000 to over 22,000 in the last few months.
“The interest has just been extraordinary,” says Claire. “I have been posting since we moved into the house in 2016 but, with lockdown, I had a little more time to focus on photographing my favourite rooms and accessories, and suddenly I was getting lots of new followers, along with lovely comments about my home.
“I originally went on Instagram for inspiration as we had bought a beautiful new house and I wanted the inside to be just as gorgeous. It is wonderful that people are now following me for style ideas!”
The property in question was a five-bedroom Winster style house from Persimmon Homes. The layout gave Claire and husband Ben everything they needed for their large family.
“We have five children, so space everyone was our priority,” she said. “This house has a stunning kitchen with a bay window that lets in so much light. But I think my favourite room is our bedroom – it is a sanctuary where we can relax in style and comfort.”
Claire’s love of pastel shades delivers a clean and serene atmosphere throughout the home. Every room incorporates base tones of white and grey with carefully chosen accessories, plants and lighting.
“I started with painting some of the furniture white and adding some gentle pale purples and pinks and the colour palette flowed through the house. I like the way the subtle hints of colour give each room its own personality, but in a cohesive way that does the house justice.
“I am a bit of a bargain hunter, so get most of my ideas and accessories from stores like B&M and Home Bargains. I think it is important to show that great design doesn’t have to be expensive and anyone can add a touch of designer style to their home.
“I have also been lucky that brands are now starting to approach me to collaborate with them. I was gifted a fantastic bed by Arista Living and bedding from M & Co which together completed the look of my bedroom.
“I really love my home and don’t think I will ever stop changing things, refreshing the accessories or updating the look.”
Persimmon has a number of new homes developments across Cumbria, offering properties for first time buyers, young professionals, growing families or downsizers.
