The developer behind the Hawthorn Park site has donated £1,000 to Shobdon Colts’ Under 10s team.
Persimmon Homes presented the cheque to the team’s coach at its site in west Leominster as part of its Community Champions programme.
The club, established in 1981, has seven youth sides, running teams at running from four year-olds to Under 15s. The senior squad play in the Herefordshire FA County League Saturday Premier.
Persimmon donates £700,000 to good causes and much-valued organisations across Britian each year as part of its community Champions initiative. Recent local recipients include Leominster Town FC.
The accredited five-star builder is constructing 353 much-needed, high-quality homes at Hawthorn Park, from one to five-bedroom houses, starting at £199,995.
The development will trigger £1.8m of financial contributions from the developer to the community, including for local education, recycling facilities, sports facilities, transport improvements, and attenuation measures.
Commenting, Persimmon Homes East Wales Sales Director Victoria Williams said:
“With progress coming along nicely at Hawthorn Park and our new showhomes open for potential customers, we are delighted to be supporting Shobdon Colts, continuing our proud tradition of backing local sports clubs.
“Local football clubs play a huge role in communities, and this donation builds on our commitment to help sustain the local communities where we develop.”
Matthew Jones – Coach for Shobdon Colts FC’s Under 10s – added:
“We’re delighted to have received this kind donation from Persimmon – it is much appreciated by everyone at the club.
“This will fund new kits for our under 10s team for next season as they continue to develop their skills, learn team discipline, and – at the end of the day – have fun.”
