Persimmon Homes Southern Lays Foundations For New Careers

School leavers looking for an alternative route into a career with one of the UK’s leading new homes housebuilders are being provided even greater opportunity as Persimmon Homes Southern announces the launch of this year’s FIRST trainee scheme, an alternative to traditional Apprenticeships.

The scheme, which starts each September, sees trainees enter into sales and marketing for the first time at Persimmon’s regional head office in Camberley and they will work towards achieving NVQ or BTEC qualifications.

FIRST trainees will have the opportunity to earn and learn as specific training will be provided alongside a formal assessment process and attendance at college – all fees covered throughout the training period. In addition, trainees will be provided with a mentor, offering unrivalled insight into the skills required to succeed in the industry.

Darren Jones, managing director for Persimmon Homes Southern comments “The market, and our workforce have changed significantly in recent months, and as a result we have identified areas of opportunity that would not have previously been considered as ‘entry level’ positions.

“Sales and marketing is firmly under the company’s spotlight and critical to Persimmon’s ability to succeed in the current climate, which is why we are now looking at how we can recruit the best talent in this field as early as possible and help them develop their careers.”

Persimmon’s FIRST trainee scheme was launched three years ago and has seen trainees progress through the business and, at a time where costs of further education are rising, offers a real alternative route to a successful career.

This year Persimmon will continue its training programmes with employees at every level of the business but has emphasised how keen it is to bring new blood into the organisation, particularly in sales and marketing, to train managers and directors of the future.

Applications are invited from school leavers with a minimum of five GCSE’s A* - C including English Language and Mathematics, and who have a passion to work in the construction industry.
