Rugby club say donation will help bring clubhouse ‘back to life’

31 July 2026

A rugby club is celebrating after receiving a donation that will help to bring their club house “back to life”.

Stanley Rangers ARLFC received a £2,500 donation from us after applying to our Community Champions initiative.

The club, in Wakefield, say the donation will go towards improving facilities.

Councillor Geoff Johnson and Persimmon were recently on-hand to present the cheque to the club.

Stanley Rangers ARLFC said: “The funding has given us all a boost that we needed.

“Despite our rugby league growth, our facilities fell behind and haven't grown with us. The funding received was greatly needed to repair and replace the roofing as well as the fascia and soffits.

“If we hadn't received this funding, the clubhouse would have fallen into disrepair. We don't run for profit so any extra funds. after running costs, haven't been able to cover this.

“As much as we need a ball and field for rugby, we are a family, and part of the community which extends to the clubhouse. Rugby offers so much more than just a game.

“A huge thank you goes to Persimmon for the much-needed funding that will ensure the clubhouse gets a boost to start being brought back to life.”

Councillor Geoff Johnson said: “It was great to visit Stanley Rangers on Wednesday to see representatives from Persimmon Homes present the club with a fantastic £2,500 donation through their Community Champions programme.

“The funding will go towards repairing the clubhouse guttering, helping to keep the facilities in good condition for everyone who enjoys rugby and football at the club.

“Grassroots sports clubs like Stanley Rangers play such an important role in our community, providing opportunities for people of all ages to get involved in sport, stay active and make lasting friendships.

“A big thank you to Persimmon Homes for their generous support and to everyone at Stanley Rangers for everything they do for our local community.”

James Parkin, Persimmon Home West Yorkshire Land Director said: “It was a pleasure to be invited to meet Stanley Rangers and see first-hand the work the club is doing for the community.

“We are proud to support Stanley Rangers and we hope this donation goes far in helping the club with their improvements.”
