Sen school in Teesside recieves funding boost

The Beverley School, a special educational needs school in Middlesbrough is celebrating after successfully winning funding from our Community Champions initiative.

School Headteacher Pippa Irwin this week welcomed our Teesside Technical Director Kyle Dobson to formally receive a cheque for £4,000 in the company of Middlesbrough Deputy Mayor Philippa Storey.

The donation comes after the school applied for funding in order to purchase a new sensory nook for pupils at the school to enjoy.

Beverley School is an all-age specialist school for children and young people with a diagnosis of autism and associated learning needs which aims to empower pupils to go on and lead independent lives.

Our Community Champions initiative is open to all local charities, schools and community groups looking for funding. £180,000 is available every quarter with winners receiving between £1,000 and £6,000.

Pippa Irwin, Headteacher at Beverley School, commented: “On behalf of everyone at the school I would like to say a huge thank you to the team at Persimmon for their kind donation.

“This funding will allow us to purchase a new sensory nook for our pupils, meaning they can enjoy some quiet time with friends and a perfect low stimulus space to do 1:1 intervention work with staff.

“We are dedicated to providing the best possible opportunities and experiences for our children and donations like this help us to achieve just that.”

Councillor Philippa Storey, Middlesbrough Deputy Mayor and Executive member for Culture & Education, said: “It was a pleasure and a privilege to visit the amazing Beverley School and see the inspiring work they do with children.

“Reading is one of the joys of childhood and a key foundation in young people’s development and this donation will stand the school’s students in good stead for many years to come.”
