Application for new Wiltshire homes submitted
16 June 2025

A major Wiltshire developer has submitted an application to bring hundreds of new homes to Westbury.
Persimmon Homes Wessex, an accredited five-star developer, are seeking outline planning permission for up to 365 much-needed new homes for local people in the area on land west of Mane Way. The site has been allocated for housing as part of the Wiltshire Local Plan review.
The homes will be equipped with solar panels and electric vehicle charging infrastructure, while the development will deliver biodiversity net gain, sustainable drainage systems, and hedgerow and wildlife corridor retention.
In accordance with local planning policy, a commitment has been made that 30% of the homes will be transferred to a local housing association to help alleviate housing need in the area.
More than 50% of the site is reserved as public open space, with improved public access to the Scheduled Ancient Monument within the site boundary.
The proposal will link to existing transport connections, including the bus stops, cycle path, and footpaths on Mane Way, allowing for easy access to sustainable modes of transport and connectivity into Westbury.
Community investment through a Section 106 agreement will be discussed with the local authority as part of the planning process, whilst around £1m is expected to be provided through the Community Infrastructure Levy alone.
The application follows extensive pre-application engagement with Wiltshire Council, Design West, and Westbury Town Council, including a public consultation in January and a presentation to the Town Council.
Commenting, Persimmon Homes Wessex Managing Director Seb Spiller, said:
“I am delighted to announce Persimmon’s application to bring hundreds of high-quality, new homes to Westbury.
“From sustainability features and housing association homes to financial investment and green credentials, we believe we have a strong offering alongside the delivery of much-needed housing as part of this proposal.
“Having consulted extensively with the local community, its representatives, and planning experts in the Council, we are proud of the work that has gone into this application and we look forward to continuing to work with them all as we aim to make this vision a reality.
“We look forward to the opportunity to leave a positive and lasting legacy in Westbury.”
