Radyr Comp receive Persimmon cheque

East Wales region has donated £1,000 to Radyr Comprehensive School’s rugby section.

They are the latest recipients of Persimmon Homes East Wales’ Community Champions scheme, and have put the money towards new kits for the players, which also bear the five-star builder’s logo.

The school’s Year 11 rugby team have had success during their time in school, previously winning the Cardiff schools 7s competition.

The jerseys were worn in their recent Cardiff schools cup victory, triumphing 34-12 over Cathedral School. Students are looking forward to the next round following the Christmas break.

Our East Wales region is developing at The Parish development at nearby Capel Llanilltern, where three and four-bed homes are currently available from £264,995, with more homes coming soon.

The multi-phase site will eventually see over 1,000 high-quality homes built during construction alongside numerous community facilities including a new primary school, shops, offices and sport pitches.

The funding came from our Community Champions scheme which sees the East Wales region donate £24,000 each year to good causes and commendable organisations in the areas in which it develops. Recent recipients in the City include Old St Mellons Community Council, Pentwyn Dynamos, and Caerau Ely RFC.

Commenting, Victoria Williams – Persimmon Homes East Wales’ sales director – said:

“We’re delighted to support one of the school rugby teams at Radyr Comprehensive this winter with new kit funded by our long-standing Community Champions initiative.

“Persimmon has a proud record of supporting youth sports teams, whether they are affiliated with schools or are independently run, and we are proud to be doing this once again in Cardiff.

“Our development at The Parish just a few minutes up the road will undoubtedly be home to current and future students at Radyr Comp so supporting them makes perfect sense as we aim to leave a positive and lasting legacy in the areas in which Persimmon develops.”

Nick Roberts, Head of Physical Education at Radyr Comprehensive School, added:

“Schools have several responsibilities and have to fund them, so opportunities for external donations like the one we have received from Persimmon have to be taken.

“This has allowed us to invest in new kits for our players, which I believe is important to given them confidence in the equipment we provide as they go on the field and play the sport they love.”
