Central team helps Bedworth pupils dig further into local history

A primary school in Bedworth has been given an insight into local history, thanks to an archaeological dig hosted by our Central team.
Pupils at The Canons CE Primary School were invited by the developer to attend the dig, located at Hospital Lane, where Persimmon Homes has submitted plans to develop up to 455 new homes in the town.
As part of the event, pupils were given a talk from the team around the wider history of the site, as well as the Medieval and Roman artefacts that have already been found on the site and what the archaeologists are still expecting to find as part of the on-site works. The pupils were then shown a range of artefacts and resources that they could handle.
Mrs Fallon, Headteacher at The Canons CE Primary School, said: “We have had a wonderful time today, this was a fantastic opportunity to learn about the history of the town and to become little historians. Opportunities like this really help to bring history to life for children. They can see first-hand what came before. I think the children will always remember what they have learned today.
It has been fascinating to see and handle artefacts that have been found and to witness the meticulous process of an archaeological dig.”
Emily Berville Charlesworth, Land and Planning Manager at Persimmon Homes Central, said: “What we do is about much more than just building homes, it’s about leaving a lasting positive legacy in the communities that we build in. We’re always delighted to work with local schools to show them all of the different steps that make up our developments.
“It was great to host this visit for pupils at The Canons CE Primary School, allowing them to learn not only about the history of the Hospital Lane site, but also about the wide variety of works that go into creating a new community.”
