Club bowled over by ‘grand’ donation

02 March 2021

A Northamptonshire village cricket club will be able to start planning vital improvements, thanks to a £1,000 donation from Persimmon Midlands.

Loddington and Mawsley Cricket Club is receiving the funding through the Community Champions scheme, which was set up to support local good causes.

Claire Dearsley, sales director for Persimmon Midlands, said: “Village sports teams are an important part of the fabric of their community, bringing people together and providing a focus for local life. We understand how hard it is for clubs to fundraise at this time, so we are pleased to be able to help Loddington and Mawsley Cricket Club fund their ground improvements.”

The club, just a few miles outside Kettering, is focused on providing a safe and playable surface for the community when cricket can restart. Over the past two seasons their coaching nets have become too worn out for use, with the frame no longer fitting properly and weeds growing through the surface.

Persimmon’s donation will help towards the club’s plans to improve the area, ensuring children’s games and daily coaching can take place safely.

Claire added: “Persimmon Midlands makes two donations of up to £1,000 every month. We look forward to receiving many more Community Champions applications from groups who are making a real difference to the lives of local people.”
