East Wales donates van load of goods to Rhondda Foodbank
20 December 2022

With cost-of-living challenges impacting many families in the Valleys this Christmas, East Wales region has joined forces with its supply chain to collect food and other goods for Rhondda Foodbank.
Initiated by East Wales in Llantrisant, staff and other businesses were tasked with collecting goods to be distributed across Rhondda during the festive season.
Thanks to the generosity of workers and other companies such as Thomas Brothers Group, Intu Interiors, Cardiff Groundcare and Treforest Tiling, our East Wales region collected around 50 boxes and trays of tins, pasta, selection boxes, baby gifts and numerous other household and domestic items.
Since April alone, volunteers at Rhondda Foodbank have fed over 3000 people across the Rhondda Fach and Rhondda Fawr.
The Foodbank is part of a nationwide network supported by The Trussell Trust, and provides three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people in the Rhondda who are referred to them in crisis.
Lee Woodfine, Managing Director at East Wales, said:
“This winter is proving extremely challenging for many families in the South Wales Valleys as the cost-of-living soars.
“As a prominent local business, Persimmon wanted to do something to support Rhondda Foodbank as we know locally usage is up, and we wanted to help parents and children who might be struggling this Christmas.
“It wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of Pam Bennett at our head office who pulled it together, and our supply chain partners Thomas Brothers Group, Intu Interiors, Cardiff Groundcare and Treforest Tiling who supported the cause with generous donations.
“We hope this donation can go a little way to helping some families this Christmas thanks to the great work undertaken by the team of volunteers at Rhondda Foodbank.”
Commenting on the donation, Theresa Thomas manager at Rhondda Foodbank said:
“Christmas should be a joyous occasion for all, but it will come with a set of unique challenges this winter for many families facing the cost-of-living crisis.
“We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry, and that’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis.
“We are very grateful to Persimmon Homes and partners for their support.”
