East Wales region chips in towards Jacob’s treatment
01 March 2022

East Wales region has stepped in with a £1,000 donation towards experimental treatment for a six-year-old from Ebbw Vale.
Jacob Jones was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called neuroblastoma shortly before his second birthday.
Doctors gave Jacob just a 34 per cent chance of survival – but the brave little boy made it through surgery and chemotherapy and was declared cancer free in 2019.
Sadly, a suspected cancerous lump has now been found on his liver.
While Jacob was cancer-free he travelled to North Carolina and Michigan for costly DFMO treatment, which is not available on the NHS and aims to prevent neuroblastoma from returning.
His parents are trying to raise £20,000 to cover the costs of any further treatment required.
They have set up the Jacob’s Fight campaign – our East Wales region has donated £1,000 through the Community Champions scheme.
Jacob’s dad Alwyn said: "Jacob has always got a cheeky smile on his face but he's living in limbo at the moment. All he's known is hospital and being ill and having bloods done.
“We are grateful to everyone for their fundraising efforts, and to Persimmon Homes for their generosity.”
Each month we donate £64,000 to good causes across the UK through Community Champions – and up to £4,000 in Wales.
Victoria Williams, Sales Director at our East Wales region, said: “We’re delighted to be able to make this donation to Jacob’s Fight.
“Jacob is a very brave boy who has gone through so much in his life already. We wish him all the very best for the future.”
We are currently building 250 new properties at Carn y Cefn, which is on the former Ebbw Vale Comprehensive School and College site on Waun-Y-Pound Road.
The first homes have now been released for sale – and more than a dozen have already been reserved.
