Helping save lives at sea in Essex
04 March 2025

Persimmon Homes Essex has sponsored an annual fundraising event being hosted by a lifesaving charity in Harwich, Essex.
The RNLI Harwich hold a spring dinner and dance in the town, designed to raise vital funds to keep them afloat.
We donated £1,500 towards hosting the event, and they visited the lifeboat station in The Quay, Harwich to hand over the money.
Sir Bernard Jenkin, MP for Harwich and North Essex joined the presentation and heard how they are reliant on donations and fundraising to cover their £250,000 annual running fees.
Samuel Bray, fundraiser and crew member for the RNLI Harwich, said: “We attend around 100 shouts a year, and are the busiest lifeboat crew along the east coast. We cover the waters from the port, right across to Holland.
“We would like to thank Persimmon Homes for this donation, we rely entirely on voluntary donations and every penny counts. This money will help us to continue saving lives at sea.”
Speaking at the event, Sir Bernard Jenkin said: “Thank you to the lifeboat crew and the wider volunteer team for all you do here. I would also like to thank Persimmon for contributing to this vital part of our local community.”
Luke Atkinson, Technical Director at Persimmon Homes Essex, said: “It takes a whole community to run the lifeboat here at Harwich, from fundraisers right through to the lifesaving crew members.
“At Persimmon Homes we want to play an active role in the communities within which we are building and it is a honour to be able to make this donation and know we are supporting this valuable community service.”
The donation came from our Community Champions fund, designed to create a lasting legacy in the areas in which the developer is building. Schools, charities and local organisations working to improve the community within which they live can apply for funding of up to £6,000.
The RNLI Harwich annual dinner and dance takes place on Saturday, 5th April at The Waterfront, in Lower Marine Parade, Dovercourt.
