Helping to ease pressure on housing lists

19 April 2024

Ten new family homes have been completed at Tiptree ready for those in housing need.

The unique three and four-bedroom homes are located at our new Scarlett Mews community in the Essex town and will be made available through Park Properties Housing Association (PPHA) to those on Colchester City Council’s housing list.

They will be offered at below market value rent, while further homes being built within the new community will be offered on a shared ownership basis to support those wanting to own their own home.

The homes, which are clad in a variety of pastel shades in accordance with the approved plans, are part of the first wave of properties to be completed at Scarlett Mews, with a total of 36 being built during the initial phase including the 10 affordable homes and 26 for private sale.

Work will start on the remainder of the site later this year, including a further 29 homes that will also be transferred to PPHA, which is backed by HSPG, to further ease pressure on Colchester’s housing list.

Managing Director for Persimmon Homes Essex, Richard Hush, said: “We are proud to be delivering these much-needed new homes to families in Tiptree and the wider Colchester area.

“Persimmon is committed to building high-quality new homes across a range of tenures to help everybody find their dream home. We’re particularly proud of these beautiful houses at Scarlett Mews and can’t wait to see the future tenants move in and enjoy their new home.”

Josh Beeston, Head of Affordable Housing at HSPG, said: “We are delighted to have acquired 39 affordable homes in Tiptree via our continued strategic partnership with Persimmon Homes.

“The affordable homes delivery will comprise of 24 shared ownership and 15 affordable rented homes, consisting of one and two bedroom apartments and three and four bedroom homes. With this range, we are able to support local families and individuals living within Colchester City and support first-time buyers to get onto the property ladder in a challenging market.”

Guy Horne, CEO of PPHA, said: “With over 1.2 million people on the waiting list nationwide, every affordable home we deliver has been critical to alleviate the housing crisis. At PPHA, our subsidiary Housing Association, backed by HSPG, we have been scaling up efforts to increase our affordable housing investment into the sector.”

Cllr David King, Leader of Colchester City Council, said: “House building is essential given a national housing and homelessness crisis. And additional affordable homes supply, as here, is particularly welcome when rising purchase and rental costs put a home out of reach for some families.”
