Mayor of the West Midlands visits brownfield development in Coseley
03 March 2025

Our Central team has hosted Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, at our Coseley New Village development in the Black Country.
The 65.1-acre former brownfield site - located off Newey Business Park and the Bean Foundry on Birmingham New Road and Sedgley Road West - has been transformed to deliver a new community of 472 homes. As part of the development, we are pledging over £571,000 to the improvement of local education, highways and sports pitches in the local area.
Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, said: “Too many people are forced to live in temporary accommodation or poor-quality homes because of a shortage of affordable, warm and secure housing.
“That’s why I’m committed to delivering more social and genuinely affordable homes in our region so we can start tackling this housing crisis.
“I was pleased to meet with Persimmon to discuss how we could work together the future to build more homes for those communities that need them most.”
Coseley New Village is one of a number of brownfield sites that has been developed by our team in the West Midlands region; with the latest approval being for 105 new homes at the former Phoenix Collegiate site, located off Friar Park Road in Wednesbury.
Neil Williams, Managing Director at Persimmon Central said: “We’re delighted to have been able to welcome Richard to our Coseley New Village development, demonstrating the great work that Persimmon is doing in and around the authority.
“As a former brownfield site in a key location, the works at this development are particularly exciting for us; showcasing our commitment for delivering quality homes for local people, as well as allowing us to breathe new life into the former Bean Foundry and turn it into a brand-new community.”
