Children with additional needs across Reading and Wokingham will have greater access to clubs and activities thanks to a donation from Persimmon Homes.
Five-star housebuilder Persimmon Homes Thames Valley has donated £3,000 to the Me2 Club, which offers one to one support to allow children with additional needs to attend mainstream activities after school, including Scouting, Guiding, football clubs and swimming lessons.
The charity already supports more than 170 children, and they applied to Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme for funding to allow them to expand their services even further.
While 50% of children supporting by the Me2 Club have autism, they also support those with a range of physical and emotional needs and are open to anyone with an additional need, children do not require a formal diagnosis to access the service.
Thanking Persimmon Homes for the donation, Chin Davies, CEO of Me2 Club, said: “The children are able to attend activities alongside their peers and that helps to promote inclusivity, while also helping those running the activities to learn more about supporting children with additional needs from our volunteers.
“Thank you to Persimmon for this generous donation that will allow us to work with even more children and volunteers in our community.”
Rachel Faulkner, Sales Director for Persimmon Homes Thames Valley, said: “At Persimmon Homes we are proud to be supporting the wider community and we are delighted to have been able to offer this grant.
“The Me2 Club offers children who may otherwise miss out on afterschool activities to join in with their peers and benefit from a wide range of clubs.”
Cllr Mark Ashwell, of Wokingham Borough Council, attended the presentation to find out more about the charity's work.
