Two colleges campuses in Mid Kent are sharing a donation of bricks from our South East business.
Naushabah Khan, MP for Gillingham and Rainham, has been working with Mid Kent College and championing the work they are doing to train the next generation of construction workers.
The MP asked Persimmon Homes South East to support the college and we were able to offer a donation of 10,000 bricks from our Brickworks factory – enough to build a three-bedroom home.
Half of the bricks were donated to the Medway campus, with the remaining 5,000 being used at the Maidstone campus, close to Persimmon South East’s head office.
Naushabah Khan, MP for Gillingham and Rainham, said “It is important we start to build that new skills pipeline of construction workers, including bricklayers, to deliver the homes this Government is determined to build.
“I am delighted to be here with Persimmon and see how they are helping to provide the students here in Gillingham and Rainham with the tools that they need to be the house builders of the future".
Gavin Nicholson, Contracts Manager for Persimmon Homes South East, visited the Medway campus along with the MP to see how the bricks will be used. He said: “The students and apprentices here are learning the skills they need for successful careers in bricklaying and they show a great deal of talent.
“We are delighted to support the college with this donation and know that these bricks will be used to teach the next generation of construction workers.”
Stella Nedziwe-Maseya, Curriculum Manager at Mid Kent College, said: “We deeply appreciate the generous donation of 10,000 bricks from Persimmon Homes. This contribution will significantly benefit our students.
“It's inspiring to witness construction companies like Persimmon Homes leading the way in providing essential materials for our construction courses. Our students were also greatly motivated by the visit from Naushabah Khan, MP for Gillingham and Rainham."
