Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter celebrates funding boost for most vulnerable animals

Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter is celebrating after receiving a funding boost from Persimmon Homes.
The shelter was awarded £3,000 after applying to the Community Champions scheme.
The donation has allowed the shelter to invest in its facilities for caring for dogs and pups – with funds going towards helping the most vulnerable animals at the shelter.
The donation has allowed newborn pups to be placed in ‘wonderful’ new homes, the shelter said. Cllr Linda and Eddie Darke were in attendance with Persimmon Homes to present the cheque, in May.
Stuart Grimes, Managing Director of Persimmon North East, said: “We are so proud to support Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter and it was brilliant to visit and see how funding will go towards helping dogs and pups.
“We hope this donation goes a long way in helping more animals be cared for and for the shelter to continue the fantastic work it is doing.”
Chris Bray, Chief Executive at Newcastle Dog and Cat shelter said: "We are so grateful for the support we have had from Persimmon, the donation has helped us with the significant costs we have associated with our expectant and new mums.
“These dogs require more intensive care, attention, monitoring and support from our animal care team to ensure mum and pups are coping and thriving. We are delighted to report that many of the puppies have gone on to wonderful new homes now, we often get updates from the new owners on how they are developing and blossoming. Your donation has helped to make this happen, thank you so much"
Councillor Eddie Darke said: “It was fantastic to visit the shelter and see what the donation has been put towards – we’re very grateful to Persimmon Homes for funding improvements. Newcastle Dog and Cat shelter do so much to serve the community and we look forward to seeing how this donation will help.”
Councillor Linda Darke added: “We would like to extend our thanks to Persimmon Homes for this donation. Seeing the vital work Anita, Rachael and the team do here really shows how needed they are and why community support can really help. It was a pleasure to be invited for a visit.”
