A Hinckley-based rugby club has secured a £5,000 donation from our North Midlands team, helping them to widen youth participation through its Rugby4All scheme.
Hinckley RFC received the funding as part of our Community Champions initiative to support the Rugby4All scheme. The scheme is tailored towards young people with disabilities and creates an accessible environment, enhancing physical and mental well-being, social interaction alongside creating a sense of belonging within the community.
Weekly sessions feature various physical activities, also serving as social hubs. These sessions are led by qualified coaches and volunteers and includes mentoring program where local school students build positive relationships with participants, aiding their life skills development and providing mentors with valuable experiences.
Our donation will allow for the scheme to continue to provide this opportunity for the local community. A cheque presentation was hosted to mark the event, with visits from Dan Endersby, Managing Director at Persimmon North Midlands, Tom Pugh, Commercial Director at North Midlands and Cllr Michael Mullaney, Executive Member for Housing and Community Safety at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council.
Also attending the event was Vicky Macqueen BEM, Commercial Manager at Hinckley RFC. Vicky had previously competed in the England Roses Ladies’ team and was Director of Rugby at Leicester Tigers Ladies’ team.
Ben Avent, Sports Development Manager at Hinckley Rugby Club said "We’re thrilled to have the support of Persimmon Homes, this funding is going to make a huge difference for Rugby4All, helping us to deliver Rugby to more young people from all backgrounds. With this support, we can boost our resources, provide more coaching, and enhance the quality of the delivery, making sure every kid has the chance to play, learn, and grow through Rugby. It’s all about building stronger communities, lifelong skills, experiences and friendships through sport.”
Cllr Michael Mullaney at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council commented “Hinckley RFC do great work in the local community, and I am delighted that this donation from Persimmon allows Hinckley RFC to continue expanding the positive work they do in the local community. Sport is a great way to improve people’s mental wellbeing as well as physical health and I congratulate Hinckley RFC on giving local young people with disabilities the opportunity to participate in sport”
Dan Endersby, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes North Midlands, added “What we do is about much more than just building homes, it’s about leaving a lasting positive legacy in the communities that we build in. We’re always delighted to lend a hand to local charities and community groups to boost their ongoing initiatives or contribute to causes that mean a lot to them. It’s an honour to be able to offer this £5,000 donation to Hinckley RFC, allowing them to expand participation in the sport and make it more accessible.”
