The business made a £3,000 donation to Felixstowe Coast Patrol and Rescue through their Community Champions scheme to fund vital crew training over the winter months.
Felixstowe Coast Patrol and Rescue is the town’s independent lifeboat charity and the crew cover 180km of coastline and inland waterways between Walton and Orford, and as well as responding to emergency calls they actively patrol to prevent dangerous situations arising.
To celebrate the donation, the life-saving crew visited Persimmon Homes’ Trelawny Place community in the coastal town with their boat.
Johno Brett, Chairman of the volunteer service, said: “Last year we carried out 42 rescue operations and assisted 42 people. We saved two lives, but prevented dozens more from being put in danger by being present on the water.
“Thank you to Persimmon Homes for this donation that will help us return this summer, fully trained and ready to keep residents and visitors safe.”
Cllr Seamus Bennett, East Suffolk Council member for Eastern Felixstowe, joined the event at Trelawny Place and said: “Felixstowe Coast Patrol were one of my Mayor’s charities last year so I know what brilliant, essential work they do.
“They are skilled and supremely dedicated volunteers who rely on donations such as this from Persimmon to continue their lifesaving service to the community. Thanks to Persimmon Homes for this significant contribution from its Community Champions scheme, which is simple to apply for.”
Ian Hamilton, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes Suffolk, said: “The volunteers who give their time and energy to patrol our waters really do play a vital role in the coastal community here in Felixstowe.
“We wanted to thank them for their life-saving efforts and help them to update their training so they are fully prepared for the summer ahead and the challenges it may bring them.”
