Persimmon signs Welsh Government's Developer Pact
17 October 2022
Persimmon is pleased to announce that we have signed the Welsh Government’s Developer Pact following constructive discussions with the Minister for Climate Change, Julie James MS.
The Developer Pact’s commitments are consistent with the approach already announced by us in February 2021.
Persimmon led the industry when we announced early last year our commitment to protect leaseholders from the costs of cladding removal or the remediation of fire related safety issues on the small number of multi-storey buildings we constructed.
Specifically, the Welsh Government's Developer Pact commits developers to address life-critical fire-safety issues on all buildings of 11 metres and above in Wales developed by the Group in the 30 years prior to 5 April 2022.
We have identified the developments in Wales where remedial work is necessary, and we are either on site progressing these works, or in the process of placing a contract to commence in the coming months.
Commenting on the agreement with the Welsh Government, Dean Finch, Group Chief Executive, said:
“Over 18 months ago, we said that leaseholders in multi-storey buildings Persimmon constructed should not have to pay for the remediation of cladding and fire related issues.
“We wanted to protect our customers and remove uncertainty for them, and we are pleased to reaffirm this commitment by signing the Welsh Government’s Developer Pact.
"We believed it was not only fair for leaseholders in Wales, but also the right thing to do as one of the nation’s leading homebuilders.
“We’ve worked constructively with the Minister for Climate Change, and we are pleased to have secured this agreement with the Welsh Government."
