Local housebuilder Persimmon Homes has secured planning for 65 new homes on the former Grove Airfield site.
The Vale of White Horse District Council has granted planning approval on a Persimmon Wessex scheme for 65 high-quality homes, as the next phase of the five-star developer’s Wellington Gate site.
The builder will transfer 22 of the new homes to a housing association for the purposes of affordable and social housing, helping local people on the Council’s housing waiting list.
Persimmon’s Wellington Gate site, situated on the old airfield between Wantage and Grove, will see 1,500 high-quality homes constructed once complete. Currently available for purchase are, two, three, four and five-bed properties from £274,995.
The five-star developer has collaborated closely with the Vale of White Horse District Council and local parish councils on the local Green Infrastructure Strategy, creating a network of multi-functional green spaces to deliver a wide range of environmental, economic, health and wellbeing benefits for local residents.
Alongside the new homes, Persimmon has delivered a primary school with sport pitches due to be handed over next month as part of the new sustainable community.
Persimmon Homes Wessex has also supported local groups such as Sustainable Wantage and Oxford Food Hub through its Community Champions initiative, which donates around £24,000 each year to community organisations and good causes in the areas it develops.
Julian Roper, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes Wessex, commented:
“We are delighted to have secured the next phase of planning permission from the Vale of White Horse District Council to deliver 65 new homes for local people at our Wellington Gate site.
“This development is already delivering significant benefits and investment in the local community such as a new school, sports facilities, green open spaces, and other community projects.
“We are particularly grateful to the Vale of White Horse District Council for working collaboratively on this scheme, and to our dedicated project team. Together we are set to bring thousands of high-quality and affordable homes to the local area for local people.”
