Plans submitted for 133 zero-carbon ready homes near Maesteg
25 September 2024
West Wales has submitted plans to construct 133 zero-carbon ready homes for local people on land south-west of Bridgend Road, Pont Rhyd Y Cyff, near Maesteg.
Following the housebuilder's public consultation, the plans submitted to Bridgend County Borough Council will see the development of a no-gas site featuring a range of properties, from two-bedroom houses to four-bedroom houses, powered by air-source heat pumps and solar panels.
As part of Persimmon’s contribution to the local community, 15% of these homes will be designated for local need and transferred to a housing association partner as part of the housebuilder’s commitment to the local community.
The plans also include a series of ecological enhancements, open green spaces, and on-site play equipment as well as off-site improvements to Bridgend Road to improve active travel links, general mobility through further safe crossing points, bus stop enhancements and improved cycle storage at local shops and Garth railway station – all of which will be finalised through the planning application process.
The site is allocated for housing in Bridgend County Borough Council's local development plan, which aims to increase the number and types of houses available to local homebuyers.
Persimmon Homes West Wales’ Managing Director, Stuart Phillips, commented:
"Following our public consultation, we're delighted to have submitted plans for our new development near Maesteg.
"The scheme will deliver 133 zero-carbon ready homes and a number of local community benefits from active travel improvements to ecological enhancements while supporting over 500 local jobs during construction.
"We look forward to continuing our engagement with the local community and Bridgend Council on the plans, as we work to help meet local housing needs and open the door to home ownership for more local families."
