Pupils create colourful bird boxes for show home at Liberty Gate

Colourful bird and bee boxes decorated by pupils at a Lakenheath school have been hung in the garden of a show home in the village.
Persimmon Homes Suffolk called on pupils from Lakenheath Primary School to help them create additional habitats for local wildlife within the garden of the newly-opened show home at the Liberty Gate development.
The garden has been designed with the help of our ecologist to attract bees, birds and butterflies, with a host of wildflowers planted to draw them to the garden.
Keen to add additional colour to the garden, Field Sales Manager Katy Bent-Marshall enlisted the Year 3 pupils, who painted bright designs on them using materials donated by painting and decorating contractor Dale Rudd, of DA Rudd.
Katy said: “The children took great care and attention creating colourful designs to attract even more wildlife to the garden and encourage them to take up residence.
“At Persimmon Homes we strive to protect local wildlife and offer new habitats for the different species that are native to where we are building.”
The judges chose two winning designs and invited the young artists to the garden to see their boxes in place before presenting them with a well-deserved prize each.
Molly and Alana worked together to create the winning bird box design, while Jaxon’s bee hotel caught the judge’s eye. Each won a voucher for £25.
Headteacher Michael Tingey said: “We are delighted to have been able to take part in such a worthwhile project. It gave the children an opportunity to showcase their creative skills while encouraging them to learn more about protecting the planet and supporting wildlife.”
