Space4 retires long-serving manufacturing line
18 November 2024
Our team at Space4 has commemorated the final panel made using its Line A machinery at the Space4 timber frame manufacturing facility, paving the way for new robotics capabilities at the factory in the new year.
The developer recently decommissioned the Line A Wall production area, which has been used to create wall panels since 2000. The system will be replaced with the latest in robotics technology over the coming months. To remember the line, the team immortalised the final panel on the frame-making station with a picture of Andy Shaw, Conformance Supervisor, working on the final panel - alongside an image of him working on the first ever panel on the line 24 years ago.
Andy Shaw, Conformance Manager at Space4 said: “Working at Space4 has allowed me to play my part in Persimmon’s innovative approach to construction, participating and supporting the many changes and new developments that have taken place over the past 24 years.
“It’s great to be a part of this piece of Space4 history, overseeing the use of Line A for its entire 24 year run. I’m excited to play my role in the future innovations that will take place in the facility, too.”
Gareth Wicks, Managing Director at Space4 said: “Our Space4 factory is at the heart of many of Persimmon’s properties and enables the business to be at the forefront of sustainable modern methods of construction. Our Line A machinery has served the business incredibly well since 2000, allowing us to deliver circa half a million wall panels for our customers’ homes.
“As we look to the future and begin to transition to robotic production techniques, we’re delighted to look back and not only celebrate 24 years of Line A, but also celebrate Andy’s length of service.”
