Wessex secures approval for new 68-home site in Trowbridge
11 March 2024
Persimmon Homes Wessex has received planning approval to develop 68 new homes on land off Elizabeth Way in Trowbridge.
The new site – allocated for development in the adopted Wiltshire Council Site Allocations Plan – will be accessed via a new entry on Elizabeth Way (the Hilperton Relief Road), and will deliver substantial community benefits and environmental improvements.
The scheme will see 20 of its homes transferred to a local housing association to address the urgent need for affordable housing in the area. The plans also include the provision of on-site open space and a children's play area, a cycling link connecting Middle Lane with Hilperton Road, and over £1 million in S106 contributions.
These funds will support the expansion of local schools, off-site highways improvements, off-site biodiversity enhancement, and upgrading of facilities at Hilperton Village Hall, including the retention of a public footpath through the development.
The new homes will be equipped with solar panels and electric vehicle charging points, reflecting the commitment to eco-friendly living. The development will also achieve a net gain in biodiversity with extensive on and off-site enhancement measures, including the planting of trees and wildflowers, installation of 78 bird and bat boxes, and the careful retention of important existing trees and buffers to protect the 'Core Bat Habitat' along Middle Lane.
Commenting on the project's approval, the Persimmon Wessex Managing Director, Julian Roper said "We are pleased to have secured planning permission for a new 68-home site in Trowbridge. The commitment to sustainability, community benefit, and enhancing local biodiversity is at the heart of the scheme as it seeks to leave a positive and lasting legacy in the area.
“The plans will also see over £1 million allocated towards local infrastructure and environmental enhancements for the local community. We’d like to thank the local authority for their cooperation as we’ve worked together to provide a high-quality scheme and new homes for local people.”
