Carpenter carves out successful site career

A carpenter from Sudbury has been praised by his regional team for successfully carving out a career in site management.

Scott Oakley has progressed from trainee to fully-fledged site manager in just four years, thanks to the training and development opportunities offered by Persimmon Suffolk.

Construction director Stacy Brett explains: “From his very first interview, Scott impressed me with his positive attitude and commitment to the company. It was immediately evident that he had the drive and determination to build a great career for himself and he has certainly proved me right.”

Scott initially joined Persimmon Homes in July 2017 at the Chancery Park development in Exning on a temporary basis but was quickly rewarded with a permanent contract as a trainee assistant site manager.

His training programme saw him gaining practical experience on several developments across Suffolk, at the same time as studying for his Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Occupational Work Supervision and, in March 2020, achieving the NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Construction Site Management.

The 31-year-old was promoted to assistant site manager in 2019 and then site manager last year, just four years after embarking on his journey with Persimmon. He is currently leading the team delivering new homes at Griffin Wharf in Ipswich.

Scott said: “Persimmon offers great opportunities for people who are motivated to work hard and want to progress. My training has been a really enjoyable experience and I have been thoroughly supported and encouraged to do my best throughout.

“There is a real sense of satisfaction in managing a busy site and making sure we deliver a five-star experience for all our customers.”

Stacy Brett added: “Scott demonstrates what is achievable within the construction industry and Persimmon in particular – successful and sustainable long-term careers.

“He has stepped up to every challenge he’s faced across multiple sites and is now an integral member of the Persimmon Suffolk team.

“We are always on the lookout for ambitious people who want to progress and every year we recruit a range of apprentices to help grow the Suffolk regional business. Persimmon offers a comprehensive training and development programme to help colleagues reach their potential.”

Persimmon operates new homes developments throughout Suffolk. To find out more about career opportunities with Persimmon Homes visit www.persimmonjobs.com
