Charles Church @ Haywood Village named finalist for prestigious development of the year award

Charles Church, sister brand of Persimmon Homes, has been shortlisted for the Premier Guarantee Excellence Awards 2025.

One of Charles Church’s flagship developments, Haywood Village in Weston-super-Mare, has been named a finalist in the 2025 Premier Guarantee Excellence Awards. The site is one of just four across the UK to be shortlisted in the highly competitive Development of the Year (101–150 units) category.

The awards, which recognise excellence across the housebuilding industry, will culminate in a national ceremony this September, where the winners will be announced.

The achievement is a proud moment for the Severn Valley Operating Business, with the development led by Senior Site Manager Andy Weller. With more than two decades of experience and multiple industry awards under his belt, Andy credits the recognition to the dedication and collaboration of his team.

“We made the finals because our site team has consistently pushed to raise the bar,” said Andy. “We’re proud of the high standards we deliver and the strong relationships we’ve built across trades, suppliers, and departments. It’s a real team effort, and this nomination reflects that.”

Andy’s journey with Persimmon began just two and a half years ago, reconnecting with the Region’s Construction Director Robert Simpson, whom he first worked alongside as an apprentice carpenter over 40 years ago.

Persimmon and Charles Church Severn Valley Managing Director, Claire Burton, praised the team’s achievement, saying:

“We’re incredibly proud of our team at Haywood Village for reaching the finals of such a prestigious industry award.

“It’s a true reflection of their professionalism, craftsmanship and commitment to quality.

“This recognition speaks volumes about the commitment and passion of everyone on-site. We wish them the very best of luck in September.”

The Premier Guarantee Excellence Awards are judged on a range of criteria including build quality, health and safety practices, and site management.

Charles Church will be hoping to bring home the trophy later this year, but regardless of the final result, the nomination stands as a testament to the exceptional standards delivered at Haywood Village.
