Local site wins national health and safety award for community engagement

Royal Meadows development in Muirhead recognised with ‘Best Health and Safety in the Community’ title at inaugural Homebuilder Safety Awards 2025.

Persimmon Homes West Scotland has been named winner of the Best Health and Safety in the Community Award at the Homebuilder Safety Awards 2025, recognising its outstanding efforts to promote safety awareness beyond the construction site.

The accolade celebrates Persimmon’s commitment to community safety and education, with particular recognition for the team’s visit to St Barbara’s Primary School in Muirhead.

In June 2024, Construction Manager Laurence Watson and Customer Care Manager Claire Eadie visited the school — located just along the road from Persimmon’s Royal Meadows development — to speak with pupils and staff about staying safe around construction sites.

During the interactive session, pupils learned the importance of keeping a safe distance from live construction areas and how builders work to protect both workers and the public. Each pupil also received a copy of Cones and Building Homes, a children’s book commissioned by Persimmon Homes to help young people understand health and safety while introducing them to careers in construction.

Chris Logan, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes West Scotland, said:

“We’re delighted to receive this award, which highlights the hard work our teams put into keeping both our people and our neighbours safe.

“Health and safety doesn’t stop at the site gate — it’s part of how we build responsibly in our communities. Engaging with local schools helps us raise awareness, inspire the next generation, and ensure everyone understands how to stay safe around our developments.”

The Homebuilder Safety Awards, held in Birmingham, brought together leading UK housebuilders to celebrate excellence, innovation, and dedication to safety across the sector.

Persimmon West Scotland’s success builds on the company’s strong safety record and reinforces its ongoing commitment to leaving a positive legacy in the communities where it builds.
