Persimmon apprentice scores high in UK’s largest construction skills competition

A Persimmon apprentice has scored high in the UK’s largest construction skills competition after he won a regional qualifier.

Charlie Smith, from Stockton, won the SkillBuild Regional Qualifiers in Bricklaying after competing against talented apprentices and trainees from across the country.

The 19-year-old excelled in a demanding six-hour practical assessment, held at Newcastle College on June 24.

Charlie Smith said: “It’s amazing to have reached this level and win the Regional Qualifiers, I’m so pleased. I’ve loved having the opportunity to learn new skills and the support from my mentors at Persimmon has been invaluable.”

Michael Johnson said: “We’re so proud of Charlie for this incredible achievement. Here at Persimmon we’re passionate about helping the next generation develop skills for success.

“This recognition is testament to Charlie’s hard work and dedication and we can’t wait to see how he develops in his career at Persimmon.”
