First properties handed over at Cloverlea Gardens

Persimmon Homes Severn Valley has handed over the keys to the first tranche of new homes to Stroud District Council at its site in Kingswood.

Cllr Gary Luff, Chair of the Council’s Housing Committee, accepted the keys at the Cloverlea Gardens development, constructed by the accredited five-star developer from site manager Dan Ward.

The Council has purchased sixteen homes on the site in total, with the remaining ten homes will be completed over the next seven months. They are equally divided between shared ownership and affordable rent. Ten will be two-bed properties, four three-bed homes, and two four-beds.

All the homes benefit from gas central heating, solar PV panels, electric vehicle charging, dedicated parking and private gardens. The wider Cloverlea Gardens development consists of 54 homes and includes a new play area close to Kingswood High Street.

There are currently 2,774 households waiting for social housing on the District’s housing register, with a further 1,298 applications pending validation, so the purchase will help drive down those numbers.

Claire Burton, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said “We are delighted to have handed over this initial tranche of high-quality homes to Stroud District Council, which will provide much-needed Affordable Housing for local people.

“This collaboration highlights our shared commitment to delivering high-quality homes and ensuring that the benefits of this development are felt across the community.

“We look forward to continuing to developing our relationship with the Council to help meet the growing demand for housing in the Kingswood area."

Cllr Gary Luff, Chair of the Housing Committee, added “Handing over the keys to these new homes is a really positive moment for Kingswood and the whole district. We know how high the need is for genuinely affordable housing, and buying good‑quality new homes like these means we can help more families, faster.

“This is exactly what our expanded housing acquisitions budget was designed to achieve, and we will continue doing everything we can to provide secure, comfortable homes for local people.”
