Barnsley children’s charity gets cash boost to upgrade its facilities

A Barnsley children’s activity charity has received a cash boost from a housebuilder to upgrade its water pursuit activities.

The Exodus Project was award £1,000 from Persimmon Homes South Yorkshire, thanks to its Community Champions scheme.

The children’s charity, in South Hiendley, provides weekly activity clubs and weekend camps for disadvantaged children and young people in Barnsley, and the surrounding area.

Persimmon Homes’ donation will help upgrade the charity’s activity lake enabling it to offer a greater range of water pursuits.

Martin Sawdon, from the Exodus Project, said: “We are delighted to receive this support from Persimmon Homes.

“We recently purchased some pedalos and, due to their popularity, we felt it would be beneficial to expand our water activities and create new games and challenges for our young people.

“To enable us to do this we need to extend the lake and Persimmon Homes’ donation will help make this possible.

“With the current restriction we have the perfect opportunity to progress our lake expansion project, ready for when our young visitors are able to return.”

Richard Hosie, director-in-charge of Persimmon Homes South Yorkshire, said: “Our Community Champions scheme is all about supporting the communities where we are building. Barnsley has always been a key area of development for us and we currently have three developments in the region so we are passionate about supporting this community.

“We are very pleased to be assisting such a valuable children’s charity.”
