A school in Barry and Abergavenny Town Football Club are both celebrating after bagging donations from a leading housebuilder.
The Friends of Romilly Primary School have received £1,000 towards a new fence, while Abergavenny Town FC needs cash to help plug the shortfall created by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The donations come from Persimmon Homes East Wales in Llantrisant, which hands out two grants of up to £1,000 to groups in its operating area every month.
Claire Sennett, of The Friends of Romilly Primary School, said: “This money is a huge boost to us at a difficult time.
“Our old metal fence is deteriorating rapidly and is becoming dangerous to the children. We’re hoping to cover the fence with feather edging to give the children extra privacy and to make the area a safer place for everyone.
“We can now move forward with that project. Thank you, Persimmon.”
Ben Murphy, of Abergavenny Town FC, said: “We provide sport for both males and females from age five through to seniors and have 300 members.
“The impact of Covid-19 has been huge. We have had no income for the last seven months but have still had several outgoings.
“These are terribly difficult times and we want to avoid reducing the number of teams we run.
“This grant will help us to continue to provide facilities to all age groups, supporting development in young people but also benefitting the health and mental wellbeing of adults.”
Victoria Williams, sales director at Persimmon Homes East Wales, said: “The Covid-19 crisis has left many community groups and charities in desperate need of funding.
“We’re proud to be able to support good causes within the areas in which we operate.
“All 32 regional businesses within Persimmon donate up to £2,000 each month. That’s up to £64,000 a month – and £768,000 a year.”
Persimmon is currently selling stunning new-build homes in Barry at Haven Point and in Abergavenny in Willow Court.
