A major development of 1,500 houses in Cardiff will see millions of pounds invested in secondary education, bus services, affordable housing and community facilities, it has been revealed.
Work has begun on the significant Llanilltern Village project in south Creigiau on land just north of junction 33 of the M4.
Persimmon Homes has previously confirmed it is contributing around £14m in S106 contributions as part of the development.
And today Martin Smith, managing director of Persimmon Homes East Wales, gave further details about how that money will benefit the area.
As well as funding a brand new primary school on site, Persimmon will also pay £3,276,200 towards secondary education in the vicinity, in both English and Welsh-medium schools.
Persimmon Homes has also pledged a £2.25million boost to the local bus service and the site will also include a station for the new South East Metro.
There is a further £105,000 contribution towards community facilities, which will be given to the council to spend on new off-site facilities within the St Fagans/Creigiau ward.
Crucially, as well as providing 15 per cent of affordable housing on the Llanilltern Village site, Persimmon Homes is also contributing £7.9m towards off-site affordable housing in Cardiff, which will be paid in seven instalments as building work progresses.
There will also be payments towards air quality and waste management, as well as a £50 voucher for each house buyer towards a new bicycle.
Two new sports pitches will be built, as well as an orchard and 1,000-space park and ride facilities into the city close to junction 33 of the motorway.
Finally, later on in the development, a 2,500sq ft local centre will be built, with commercial units suitable for shops, service businesses, restaurants and cafes.
Mr Smith said the development would revamp the area for decades to come.
“Everyone at Persimmon Homes East Wales is excited about this significant development in Creigiau,” he said.
“These large scale developments, where not only do we create much-needed housing but also regenerate a whole area, are particularly exciting for me. It’s about creating a whole new area for people to live, work and play.”
“The financial contributions will make a significant impact which everyone in the area will benefit from in one way or another.”
“Furthermore, the development will create in the region of 1,700 new jobs for local people, which is a tremendous boost.”
“I look forward to watching this site develop and flourish in the months and years to come.”
