A mental health support service for men has secured a cash boost from a housebuilder to offer a support group for men in Leeds.
Leeds Mind was awarded £1,000 from Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, thanks to its Community Champions scheme.
For the past year the Leeds mental health charity has piloted a service called Men’d.
The scheme was specifically designed for men over the age of 18 who may be socially isolated, at risk of, or experiencing suicidal thoughts, or who are simply struggling to manage with day-to-day life.
Myriam Barker, of Leeds Mind, said: “Our Men’d service has been a great success. We have been providing a safe place where men can freely talk about their experiences and feelings and are supported to manage their situations.
“The coronavirus pandemic has increased the demand for our support, and we anticipate this will only continue to rise. Persimmon Homes’ donation will enable us to maintain our support, which is especially important during what has been a difficult time for many.”
Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire makes two donations of up to £1,000 every month to grassroots groups and charities in the areas where it is building.
Christopher Hull, deputy managing director of Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, said: “Our Community Champions scheme is all about supporting the community and Leeds Mind is doing just that. We are very happy to help support their valuable work.”
