Seaside vibes for Abi in Weston-super-Mare

A vintage clothes expert has swapped a small flat for a stunning three-bedroom Souter style home – and she’s enjoying putting a seaside twist on the décor.

Abigail Ewles and her partner Kyle moved into their new Persimmon home at the Oakwood View development in Weston-super-Mare in April last year – and they’ve wasted no time in putting their unique stamp on the property.

Twenty-four-year-old Abigail, who owns a successful vintage clothing store, has been showcasing the home on Instagram under the @westonsoutermare handle and has amassed 1,220 followers. Abigail has opted for contrasting colours in most rooms with interesting accessories and, in a nod to the home’s location, a seaside/boho twist. “We waited about eight months after moving in and then really went for it by re-modelling most rooms,” she said. “It was a big change moving from a flat into this beautiful house, so we wanted to get it right. I take most of my inspiration from Pinterest and I’m really pleased with how it’s worked out. Abigail and her partner have done all the work themselves, aided by Kyle’s tradesmen background. Here’s a brief look at three key rooms:

Living room: The living room is predominantly white with a dark blue feature wall to add contrast and brass accessories, including a Harrington light fitting. “We’ve got a really large TV so that was a major consideration,” said Abigail. “We had to divert attention elsewhere. I love the grey corner sofa and we’ve gone for black and white pictures in frames, with a dark blue rug as well to match with the walls. We installed some herringbone vinyl on the floor and the result is amazing – it’s just like the real thing. It’s a boho style room and the mustard textiles go really well. It’s a lovely room to spend a Sunday afternoon.”

Kitchen: The kitchen is deliberately minimalistic to keep it “light and airy. There is a small shelf unit and a gin bar with various tipples on offer to visitors. It can be a slightly dark room so I’ve offset that and lightened it up with accessories like such as small potted plants,” said Abigail.

Dressing room: The third bedroom has been turned into a dressing room with a copper colour scheme and bamboo and rattan accessories. Abigail said: “This is one of my favourite rooms. The copper paint almost looks like fresh plaster. One technique I used here was to only paint three-quarters of the way up and leave white at the top. It makes a bit of a statement. This is something I’ve seen on social media and used in other rooms as well. I wanted it to look like glam so I’ve added lots of accessories.”
