Residents on a new housing estate in Swindon have decided to put on a frightfully fun scarecrow display to raise funds for Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
The Halloween themed scarecrow trail, taking place on the Badbury Park development, off Marlborough Road, features 32 scarecrows, from witches and cowboys to clowns and pirates.
Resident on the development and secondary teacher Jenny Green organised the event. She said: “I organised the scarecrow trail as a free event and it’s been great to see so many get involved.
“I have put together a trail checklist and map/route for the trail, which are available as a download, so everyone can enjoy while keeping safe.
“For those wanting to go on the trail, we have welcomed donations to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance after a close friend’s dad passed away suddenly and the air ambulance was involved in helping at the scene.”
Developer Persimmon Homes helped with the fundraising and donated £500towards the efforts.Pauline Fletcher, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes Wessex, said: “When we heard about this at the development, we had to get involved. It is always lovely to see new communities taking shape and this Halloween themed scarecrow trail is certainly helping to keep spirits up on the development.
“Residents are really excited and everyone is looking forward to participating in the trail. The trail has certainly made Persimmon staff smile too.”
The development, located on the northern edge of Coate Water Country Park, immediately attracted buyers when the developer started construction in June 2014.
Recently, Persimmon Homes has acquired land to launch a new phase of development, which will provide a further 56 much-needed new homes for the area. The new phase will consist of three and four-bedroom properties, including 14 affordable homes, in response to an increase in demand for affordable new build homes.
