Most women at 37 weeks pregnant want to put their swollen feet up and relax.
Not Sarah Finch, who not only moved house but also set about a lightning-fast makeover project to get the property fully decorated ahead of her first daughter’s arrival.
“We purchased our Chedworth Persimmon Homes three-and-a-half years ago and I was heavily pregnant,” said Sarah.
“We’d lived in a showhome previously so we were used to everything being pristine and wanted to get everything done before I gave birth.”
“It was two weeks of getting carpets in and decorating. It was certainly a mad dash but we were pleased with the outcome!”
Sarah and her husband Lewis bought at Persimmon’s Cwrt Y Bedw site in Hendy, Swansea.
The pair now have two daughters and have continued to bring their own style to the property in the months and years that followed and have created a beautiful family home – so much so that Sarah’s @south_wales_chedworth Instgram has attracted more than 3,500 followers in the last three months since setting up her page.
Sarah said, rather than opt for a consistent theme throughout the house as many do, she wanted each room to have its own personality – but tied together using clever techniques.
“There are a lot of neutral tones and beiges throughout the house, but I wanted each room to be a little different, whether that is in colour or through a statement piece,” she said.

Living room
The living room has recently been redecorated with an art deco vibe, a ‘wow’ chair, dusky pink accents and a hint of gold.
Sarah said: “The room really needed a refresh and lockdown gave us the push we needed.”
“We’ve gone for lighter furniture and changed the layout so we have more space. It’s opened up the room really nicely and there’s a big area in the middle for our daughter to play.”
“My husband wasn’t keen when I told him I wanted an art deco vibe with dusky pink, panelling, a crystal chandelier and a golden peacock statue - but he secretly loves it now.
“People said we were crazy going for a cream sofa with a young child – but it looks great! Sometimes style over practicality wins!”
Three large gold prints from Next add interest to the room.

Kitchen
The kitchen has an “industrial, rustic look” with exposed brick, reclaimed wood, darker accessories and a large galvanised steel mirror.
The focal point is a large, metal light which hangs above the dining table.
Sarah added: “We wanted to add a bit of green into the kitchen to break up the space, so we added some foliage and it’s certainly had an impact. We’re having some new darker worktops soon to add extra contrast.”

Downstairs cloakroom
Sarah said the room which gets the most comments on Instagram is the smallest room in the house – the downstairs cloakroom.
The room has an intruding staircase, which adds interest.
“Some people might find it a bit annoying but I find it quirky and I love it,” said Sarah. “It’s a bit Harry Potter.
“We’ve gone for metro tiles, the same as in the kitchen and utility, and a new vanity units, with just a few simple frames. It’s made such a big impact to the smallest space.”
Sarah said she is always on the look-out for new design ideas.
“Doing things on a budget means re-using the items we’ve already got,” she said.
“So I’ll take one item, maybe a piece of furniture, and plan the whole room around that.”
“I’m always looking on Instagram and Pinterest for ideas. I’ll see a tr
